We are looking for an experienced and compassionate Family Lawyer to join our Family Law Department. The successful candidate will manage a varied caseload of family law matters, including divorce, child arrangements, financial settlements, and domestic abuse cases. The role requires strong legal expertise, excellent client care skills, and a commitment to delivering sensitive, practical advice to clients during challenging times.
About the Role:
- Handle a full range of family law matters, including divorce, separation, child arrangements, financial disputes, cohabitation agreements, nuptial agreements, and domestic abuse cases.
- Provide empathetic and practical advice to clients, ensuring they fully understand their rights and options. Support clients through emotionally difficult situations with professionalism and care.
- Draft legal documents, including divorce applications, consent orders, financial agreements, and child arrangement orders. Negotiate settlements between parties to reach amicable resolutions where possible.
- Represent clients in family court proceedings, including financial remedy hearings,injunctive proceedings and child arrangement disputes. Liaise with barristers and attend court on behalf of clients as needed.
- Promote and facilitate mediation, collaborative law, or other alternative dispute resolution methods to resolve family law issues without the need for litigation where appropriate.
- Manage your own caseload efficiently, maintaining accurate case records, and ensuring all deadlines are met. Use case management systems for tracking progress and time recording.
- Ensure compliance with family law protocols, court procedures, and legal obligations. Keep up-to-date with developments in family law and attend relevant training to maintain expertise.
- Build strong relationships with clients, delivering excellent client care, and maintaining a positive reputation for the firm. Ensure client confidentiality is maintained at all times.
Skills and Qualifications:
- A qualified solicitor, or legal executive with a minimum of 3- years of experience in family law.
- Strong knowledge of family law, including divorce, financial remedy, child arrangements, domestic abuse, and nuptial agreements.
- Ability to offer clear, sensitive, and practical advice, with a client-first approach. Empathetic and capable of supporting clients through emotional and difficult family issues.
- Strong negotiation skills to achieve favourable settlements in financial and child arrangement disputes.
- Confident in representing clients in family court hearings and dealing with complex litigation matters.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills, able to handle a busy caseload and meet court deadlines while delivering quality work.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills for liaising with clients, drafting documents, and negotiating with opposing parties.
- Experience or willingness to engage in mediation, collaborative law, or other forms of dispute resolution outside of litigation.
Desirable Skills:
- Law Society or Resolution accreditation is an advantage but not essential.
- Experience with Legal Aid-funded family law matters is advantageous but not necessary.
- Advanced experience in complex financial settlements, including cases involving high net worth clients or complex asset structures.
