Legal Support for Serving and Former Military Personnel
Why Legal Support for Military Personnel Matters
Military personnel dedicate their working lives to protecting the nation, often at significant personal and family sacrifice. Whether serving on active duty, as a reservist, or transitioning into civilian life, members of the Armed Forces face unique legal and practical challenges that require specialist understanding and support.
Service life brings pressures that are rarely encountered in civilian employment. These can include complex employment arrangements, deployment-related injuries, frequent relocation, and strain on family life. Access to clear, expert legal advice ensures that those who serve are treated fairly, protected properly, and able to plan confidently for the future.
Employment rights are a key area where support is vital. Reservists, in particular, can face inequality in pay, pensions, and workplace treatment. Standing up for these rights not only benefits individuals but helps drive positive change across the wider Armed Forces community.
Personal injury claims also play an important role in safeguarding long-term wellbeing. Military roles are physically demanding, and injuries – including hearing loss caused by inadequate protection – can have lasting effects. Legal guidance ensures accountability and helps individuals secure the compensation and support they deserve.
Beyond service-related matters, military personnel often require assistance with everyday legal needs such as property transactions, wills, and family law. Ensuring these foundations are in place provides reassurance for service members and their families, particularly in a profession where risk and uncertainty are part of daily life.
Supporting military personnel is about more than legal advice – it is about recognising service, upholding fairness, and offering practical help when it matters most. By providing informed, compassionate support, we help those who serve protect not only the country, but their own futures and those of their families.
Our services
Employment Claims
Slade De Lacey has represented Major Charles Milroy for five years and they won Milroy  v  MOD 2024 EMPLOYMENT TRIBUNALS (SCOTLAND) a case which recognised that the MOD should pay a pension to reservists and reservists who should be paid equally to full time military personnel. We have recently defended an appeal at the Edinburgh EAT by the MOD on 18-19 December. We await the decision. We are assisting reservists with their employment claims and should you wish to enquire about a claim do not hesitate to contact Slade.Â
Personal Injury
Unfortunately, many injuries happen at work as we spend most of our daily lives at work. Due to the physicality and nature of military work the workplace can lead to serious injuries.
Noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL) if you have hearing loss and were not issued effective protective equipment to protect your hearing during military service whether in active duty or training exercises you may be able to seek compensation for your injuries. If you consider that the  MOD has neglected your health and safety and your hearing loss has been caused by this neglect we can help you recover compensation. If you would like to speak to our Personal injury expert please contact Erin Darling-Finan.
Buying or Selling a Property
If you are relocating, retiring or considering your future and want to buy a future home or a buy to let while you are in service our conveyancing experts will help you. Your fees will be discounted by 10% in recognition of your service.
Making a Will
We all need a will and military personnel are well advised to ensure that they have one in place due to the inherent extra risks in military service.
